finding out from death what life asks of us

 Somewhere, at 3,30 in the morning, someone is praying for the universe and all its inhabitants.

Why?

Excellent question.

I pray we’ll find out.

He winced. Then smiled. As did the technician. Said, "We don't say that here." Laughed. "That's some dark humor." 

I said, "I'm from Brooklyn. Comes with the neighborhood."

He'd been telling me that 97% of the surgeries go fine. But there is a chance of not-good outcome, or even blindness. No 100% guarantee.

I asked, "In the case of blindness, do you sell eye-patches?"

Wince, smile, chuckle followed. Then, I suspect, compulsory wiping the slate clean of such (as he called it) "dark humor."

I neglected to list meditation.
